So something that those of you who follow me already know is I like cooking and reviewing different ways to cook while camping. I think I have finally found the system for me, and that is the Tembo Tusk Skottle.

I’ve never had a single system that could cook anything, and this is it. I have cooked Steaks, Hamburgers, Fried Rice, Stirr fry, and more on this thing. It’s versatile and can do just about anything you’re needing with some care.
How it works?
This is a bowl shaped grill essentially, and cooks like a wok/cast iron skillet. There is a camp style burner (Kovea Scout Burner)that attaches to the stand blow the bowl, and this causes a nice hot spot in the center, but also provides an area to the sides that can be used to cook more sensitive foods, or keep it all warm.
The whole system is attached by legs that are held into the bottom by screws. it’s easy and quick to assemble, and all packs down into a very well built carrying case. The legs are adjustable to 20-36 inches, making this easy to use on a table top or standing by itself as a stand alone system.
This can be operated on isobutane, or propane, and comes with an adapter to use the propane. the burner is setup to go straight to an isobutane container.
Ultimate Skottle Grill Kit
So this is the kit that I purchased, and it comes with all of what’s mentioned above with some add on’s.
These include:
-Wind Guard
-Steam Tray
-Dome Lid
-Bamboo leg table
-TemboTusk Spatula
-Buzzy Waxx
Cooking on the Skottle
As I mentioned above, cooking on the skottle is much like cooking on a wok, where most of the heat is concentrated in the center and the outside is more of a warmer. This has been great for me because I’ve been able to use the center to cook meats, it hold the oil, and once they’re cooked you can push it aside and use the oils rendered from the meat to cook your vegetables, or rice etc.
The warm outside keeps the meat warm, so when it’s time to combine it all you can just push it all down and combine it. The burner is easy to adjust, and the hot spot in the center can go from very warm all the way to searing temperatures.
I have also been able to use the steaming tray to hold brats/sausages up over the pan, spray some water in, and place the dome over the top. This is awesome because you can steam/cook things to the temperature you’re looking for without burning the food. Once the brats were up to temp, we simply pulled them off the steaming tray and placed them on the cooking surface to brown the outsides.
Overall – I think this is the do-all cooking system. It can do just about whatever you want, and I’ve used it +20 times now, and will be keeping this in my kit. If you’d like to see some cooking action, feel free to watch my video!
